Home comforts, lovely people, great value

Overall, Lovesome Hill Farm B&B is excellent value for money (we paid £40 per person, per night) given the quality of the accommodation.

The first thing to say about Lovesome Hill is that it’s easy to get to. Due to the disruption and delays caused by the current roads works further up the motorway (at Catterick) we decided to come off the A1M at the Junction to Northallerton/A19. It was very easy from there to bypass Thirsk and get on to the A167. The Farm is on the RHS a few miles north of Northallerton.

It’s a working farm but despite this, it was very clean, tidy (even outside) and quiet with easy parking right where the accommodation is. We received a lovely warm, Yorkshire welcome from owner Mary who showed us to our room. The room itself was very comfortable, large, nicely decorated with a traditional feel and yet all mod cons. Mary even pointed out the Wifi code for us! The double bed was amazingly comfortable and we had a nice shower room. The shower was a little cramped but then again, myself and my boyfriend are both tall.

Mary and John could not have been better hosts to us; friendly, warm, welcoming and helpful. The breakfast (we had the full English) was to die for! Lovesome has its own Pork products made locally.

We were up in the area for a family visit but if you are going on vacation there is so much to do in and around the area: Darlington has a lot to offer people interested in historic towns. Richmond is close by and worth a visit (especially Fountains Abbey). The North York Moors National Park in on the doorstep, Rievaulx Abbey in Helmsley is a short distance away and the coast is doable in a day. Stayed November 2015, travelled with family

Lovely night away

I booked The Gate Cottage for me and my boyfriend for his 30th. The cottage was lovely and cosy and the hot tub was amazing. I didn’t have breakfast but my boyfriend said it was incredible. Already planning to stay again. Both Mary and John were great and extremely helpful. Thanks for an enjoyable stay! Stayed November 2015, travelled as a couple

Homely comforts….

This visit in October was my second time to Lovesome Hill Farm in six months. Impeccable detail was given by hosts Mary and John to our every need. Cleanliness and an excellent breakfast with a homely feeling will ensure that my wife and I will return some day soon from our home in British Columbia. Thoroughly recommended!

We stayed two nights at this comfortable and relaxing B&B while walking the eastern end of the C2C. From the pot of tea and scone on arrival, Mary and John couldn’t have been more welcoming and accommodating. That they find the time to pay such careful attention to their guests while running a fully functioning family farm is some sort of marvel (we were there in the middle of harvest!). We stayed in the main house – our room was very well-appointed, with a deliciously comfortable bed, and a roomy en-suite with a good shower (very welcome after a day’s walk). Mary had apologised profusely for a carpet stain left in our room by the previous occupant, but she had it cleared up on our first day without any fuss and it detracted not a jot from the enjoyment of our stay. While we didn’t sample Mary’s dinners, the breakfasts were superb – the freshest eggs and the tastiest sausage and bacon we’ve had for a while (the homemade apple juice was a treat and, while I know it’s not everyone’s taste, I particularly recommend the optional black pudding!). And Mary was happy to suggest some good nearby places to eat out in the evening. Keen walkers themselves, we’d thoroughly recommend John and Mary’s warmly welcoming farm to anyone doing the C2C or just looking for a relaxing few days in the area.
